    Join us for a behind-the-scenes tour of the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s conservation science lab.  Gregory Dale Smith, Otto N. Frenzel III Senior Conservation Scientist, will lead our tour and explain how paintings are preserved and sometimes resurrected through science.  He will also explain some of the mysteries hidden behind the paint.  For example, did you know that the authenticity of IMA’s Rembrandt was established through scientific analysis of the painting?

    When: Friday, May 27 at 1:00 pm.

    Where:  Newfields, 4000 Michigan Road, Indianapolis

    Notes:  Attendance is limited to 15.  First come; first served.  Tickets are not required unless you plan to go somewhere other than the lab and cafeteria. Those interested in sharing lunch before the tour should meet in the IMA cafeteria at noon.

    Friday, June 17th will be an opportunity to visit the Eiteljorg exhibit of Andy Warhol's West exhibit exploring his fascination with American Indian topics as well as the western culture of the United States. Warhol was also interested in western wardrobe for his personal style, collecting cowboy boots of many types.
    We will meet at 12:45 in the lobby of the Eiteljorg Museum and enjoy a tour of this special exhibit with the guidance of a curator.

    With Eiteljorg admission, you can get free parking in underground garage if you bring ticket into the lobby for validation.

    This group is for anyone interested in listening, speaking and improving Italian language. All skill levels are welcome, but beginner participants need to know basic grammar and speak and understand simple sentences. 

    What:It's a time to gather with other women to practice Italian and discuss various topics while having fun and without stress.

    When: Tuesday, May24 and June 28, at 2:00–4:00 p.m.

    Where: in a coffee shop or restaurant or hosted by the group leader or one of the group" members.The location will be announced in the Weekly Update the week before the meeting.

    We meet the third Wednesday of every month except for December when we meet the second Wednesday..  Members meet during the daytime at a local cinema, usually the Keystone Arts cinema at the Fashion Mall, to enjoy a movie together.  Some members stick around to discuss it.  I will select the movie based on what is playing at the theatre.  Then I will read reviews to guide me in the film selection.  Suggestions are always welcome.  A few days prior to our meeting date I will send an Email to all who have signed up for the Daytime Movie Group with the particulars for that month’s movie.  If you are not signed up, send me a text with your name and Email address and I will include you in the mailing.

    We will tour the spacious downtown Central Library, as well as their new Center for Black Literature & Culture.  We last toured several years ago before the new Center was installed in the library. If you haven’t toured the Central Library, it is well worth adding this to your schedule.  After our tour, you can enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant or coffee/snacks at the Café in the library.     I have not yet been to the Holcomb Observatory & Planetarium on the Butler University Campus, but it has been on my “bucket list”. I am working on an IWI private evening tour, which would be on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday evening. Family members will be welcome. Information regarding this event (date/cost/address/etc.) will be sent out later via the IWI Weekly Update.

    Instead of a speaker, some of our members wanted to hear about one another's spiritual paths or faith journeys, so we will meet to talk among ourselves in person for sharing and support. Please feel free to bring a beverage as we learn from each other and perhaps see similarities in our own search for meaning.


    What:  "The Spiritual Path or Faith Journeys of Women"-a discussion among our group members

    When:  Thursday, May 12, 10:00 a.m.-11:45 a.m.  (We must start on time, because we must leave at 11:45 due to a lunch meeting there every Thursday.)

    Where: St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis 46260 

    NOTE: The Parlor Room has been refurbished and is now called the Conference Room. We will meet there. Please enter through Door 6 and turn right. The Conference Room will be on your left, across from the church office.

    This group is intended for members with some knowledge of French. Under the guidance of Jeannine, our expert on all things French, we read and discuss articles in French. Some of the subjects discussed include: cooking, travel, history, etiquette.... Speaking French helps the participants improve their comprehension, grammar as well as spoken French. We meet on Zoom the 2nd Monday and the 4th Monday of the month at 9.45 am and 12.45 pm respectively.     The Writing Group is a supportive, friendly group of writers who get together to share their writing and learn from each other. Prompts given after each meeting for the next meeting (optional.)  You can always bring your own writing to share. 
    Also, Flash Writing - a prompt for a timed ten minute writing exercise given the day before the meeting.

    By "public demand", we are returning to Willowfield Lavender Farm May 26 The only working lavender farm in Indiana, this is a man-and-wife operation with the owners ready to explain what they do. The wife is an artist who focuses on lavender-related items, and her husband, recently deceased, was a retired fireman who built their house from old barns he disassembled.

    Connect will not have a meeting in May, as we highly encourage our members and all IWI ladies to attend the May Luncheon for the Interest Groups Showcase.
