What: Kimono - A Journey into Japan's Traditional Attire
Have you ever seen a kimono? It might look like a simple wrapped cloth, but it's actually a carefully layered outfit with many parts, secured by a wide sash called an obi. Wearing a kimono is a traditional art form with centuries of cultural meaning. Every fabric, color, or pattern on a kimono has a special symbol, showing things like the season, the event, or even the wearer's status.
Motoko Kataoka will share cherished kimonos passed down through her family and illuminate the stories and traditions woven into each fabric. Come join us and explore this aspect of Japanese fashion and heritage!
When: Tuesday, August 5th, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Where: Motoko’s house
RSVP: By July 31st to the group leader, Motoko Kataoka,
We'd love to hear about your Traditions & Treasures! Our group is looking for members to share aspects of their culture with us. If you're interested in being a presenter, please get in touch with Motoko.
