Please join us in November for a beautiful and timely presentation by a Hindu practitioner, teacher and mystic Indu Vasudevan. Until her recent move this past March to Wisconsin, Indu had been an active member of the Hindu Temple of Central Indiana and led a tour there for our group several years ago. Her first teachers were her noble and pious parents, especially her father.

Indu will speak on a wonderful book entitled the Bhagavad Gita, which she writes "has the place in Hindu culture that the Sermon on the Mount has in Christianity; it is the central statement of how to live righteously and lovingly in a world filled with ambiguities. Framed as a conversation between an incarnation of God and a prince facing a moment of moral crisis, the Gita reveals how to say 'yes' to life's experiences and evolve purposefully toward the goal of human life.

Please note that this talk will be given via Zoom only, so we will not meet at St. Luke's. Those of you who reply will receive a link, allowing you to enjoy the presentation from the comfort of your own computer. The link will not be from St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

If your name is not on the Exploring Religion & Mysticism Interest Group list, please make sure to include your email address, so that you can receive the Zoom link.

    Where: ONLY ON ZOOM.

PLEASE NOTE that we will be meeting on Friday, the 12th, as the IWI Board meets the 2nd Thursday morning only in December.

Do you know who Banksy is?  I don’t; few people do.  But I know that he is creative, thoughtful, funny, and very knowledgeable about art.  In fact, one art historian says “Banksy saved art history.”  Banksy has strong beliefs about the role of art as well as many current political issues.  In 2010, Time magazine selected him as one of the world’s 100 most influential people.  His works sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars.  He currently has a piece at the Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum.  Whether you like his work or think he’s a menace, he will give you something to talk about.  So join us for a conversation.

Note: Since this was a last minute substitution, Bonnie will do an introduction to Banksy and his work, but most of the time will be in conversation!  No homework is required, but if you want a little background here’s an article: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-story-behind-banksy-4310304/

What:   A Conversation about the Art of Banksy

Where: Global Village Welcome Center, 4233 Lafayette Rd, Indianapolis, 46254

Approximately 60 decorated trees will be on display from November 29 through January 10 for anybody to visit (free). This is a great place to bring families and friends —- not only to see the wonderfully decorated trees, but also to check out the countries represented.  You might want to check out their Holiday Bazaar on December 13 th from 12 – 4 pm, and their holiday concert from 4-6 pm

We would like to add a few pictures on our tree that show IWI gals doing fun activities. We hope that Interest Group Leaders can email me (Jeanne) one or two pictures and we will try to laminate them so we can hang them on our tree. We have lots of ornaments and ribbons, but if you have an ornament from your country you would like to add, come join us on Nov 19th, give it to Candice or Jeanne in advance, or visit the display and add your ornament.
