Our March topic is yet to be determined.

However, for April, please join us for a very unusual topic that no speaker has ever discussed in the 21 + years that our interest group has been active. In fact, I only recently heard of this not well-known subject: a death doula.

“A death doula is a non-medical professional who provides emotional, spiritual, and practical support to individuals and families navigating end-of-life. They offer comfort, a time to talk openly and honestly about death, education about the death and dying process, and guidance and support to families. A death doula can assist in completing advanced directives, legacy planning, helping to plan what a person’s final days will look like, and ongoing support for the family, with the goal of helping each person create a sense of peace during a critical, transformative time.

“Abby Vincent is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a death doula. She is the Vice President of Care Services at Joy’s House, an adult day and caregiver support provider. Abby’s background includes working in the community mental health setting and as a counselor with people living in assisted living and long-term care facilities. Her experience includes working with individuals dealing with grief and loss, depression, anxiety, and end-of-life.”

What: "Living with Purpose, Dying with Peace: The Role of a Death Doula” by Abby Vincent, Joy's House.

    When: Thursday, April 9th, 2026 at 10:00 a.m.

Where: On Zoom and in person in the Community Room at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 100 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis. Please enter Door 6 and turn right. The Community Room will be on your left, across from the church office. Feel free to bring your own beverage.
