    Discover Art!

In March, Discover Art will visit a hidden gem of an art gallery in downtown Indianapolis.  The owner, Bill Kessler, will give us a tour of both the historic building and his lovely collection of statuary and paintings.  The building itself is recognized by Historic Preservation of Indianapolis as the oldest surviving commercial structure in the city of Indianapolis dating back to its original construction in the 1830's. It was renovated in 2014, bringing every inch of the building back to life so that it can now house a beautiful collection of artwork.

    When: Thursday, March 27, 2025, 10:30 am

Where: 312 S. Downey Ave, Indianapolis

RSVP: March 21, 2025 to Candice

The Benton House is a gorgeously designed home built in the 1870’s in the historic

Irvington area east of downtown Indianapolis. It has been restored in the style of the

period when Dr Benton and his wife lived there for nearly 30 years. The house is now

owned by the Irvington Historic Landmarks Foundation as a meeting place for area

clubs and can be used for private parties, weddings, and events. Their gardens are

unique for their display of pre-1900 heirloom plants. If we are lucky, we may get to see

flowers, including daffodils, tulips and other spring blooms. We recommend that each

person donate $10 to this historic foundation for the tour. More details regarding lunch

afterwards will be provided in the weekly update.

What: Tour the Scottish Rite Cathedral

    When: Tuesday, April 29, 2025 10:30 am

Where: 650 N. Meridian Street, Indianapolis

RSVP: April 24 th , 2025 to Jeanne

The Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis is the historic home for the Scottish Rite Masons where they hold their ceremonies and events. It is also a popular

meeting location for activities, and IWI has hosted galas in their beautiful ballroom in

previous years. It is often the location for the increasingly popular Candlelight Concerts,

and well as other musical events. The Scottish Rite became especially popular after

Taylor Swift filmed a music video inside. The cost for the tour is $10 per person and will

be collected at the door (cash only, please). More details regarding lunch afterwards will

be provided in the weekly update.

Please join us in March for a very interesting and informative presentation on the Buddhist faith by a convert to Buddhism, Renea Lanter, who  joined the faith in 2005, after meeting her teacher, the later Geshe Jinpa Sonam of the Drepung Gomang Monastery. Renea writes,

"Buddhism is an ancient tradition that has had a profound impact on our world. This talk will provide a cursory overview of its history and teachings, beginning with the historical Buddha, his fundamental message, and makes one a Buddhist. It will also cover how Buddhism spread throughout Asia and then to the rest of the globe. Finally, we will explore some of the various schools and traditions of Buddhism that continue up to the present day. Whether you know very little about Buddhism, or you have some background, it promises to be an interesting discussion."
