EXPLORING RELIGION & MYSTICISM
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season and wish everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year, filled with many blessings. We will start off our year with a very meaningful discussion of Richard Rohr's concept of Jesus. He is a Franciscan friar and a "modern-day Christian mystic". I am grateful to Sholeh Hourmozdi, a woman of faith and service, and one of our very own members, who has very kindly offered to discuss Richard Rohr's spirituality.
What: Discussion of Richard Rohr's book Breathing Under Water by Sholeh Hourmozdi who "will be summarizing his points" and discussing how "she finds a connection between her Zoroastrian background and Richard Rohr's concept of the Universal Christ."
When: Thursday, January 9th, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
Where: Community Room, St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 101 W. 86th Street, Indianapolis, IN. Enter door 6 and turn right. The Community Room will be on your left, across from the church office. Feel free to bring your own beverage.

In February, please join us for a discussion of the contemplative life as experienced and practiced by Rev. Janet Tiebert, another member of IWI.
Janet writes:
"My deepest desire is to share the journey with seekers of a life of contemplation and compassion, growing in awareness of the unity of all. All of life holds opportunities for learning who we are together, our place in and connection with the cosmos, and what this life is all about. I have been a teacher, a social worker, a therapist, a pastor and a spiritual director. Each of these has brought new insights into the spiritual life and awakening to Ultimate Love.
"Everything in our lives, the ordinary, the extraordinary, the tragic and the joyful, are opportunities to awaken to what the Divine Presence is revealing to us of Ultimate Reality. Telling our story is a way of sharing with other seekers on the journey that they are not alone and that what is drawing them on is good, loving, beautiful and true, even when it is confusing."
I think anyone with an interest in the spiritual journey will be touched by her words and personal experience.
